Update on the Shipwright Training Scheme
The aim of the Faversham Creek Trust is to help bring about the regeneration of Faversham Creek as a working waterway. The centrepiece of this is the creation of a Shipwright Training Scheme.
The scheme is progressing well after a six month delay occasioned by uncertainty over the future of the bridge and the need for more funding to complete the lofting and construction of the first Repeatable 1908 yacht Mayhi. We now have the funding and confidence in a new opening bridge and so this phase is well underway and the first Repeatable Mayhi will be ready for trainees to copy in the Spring of 2015.
The first two apprentices will be sought in January 2015 and they will follow the course in Boat Building and Marine Engineering leading to a City and Guilds qualification and then the chance of full time work in restoration of traditional craft.
In late 2015 the Scheme will be open to paying students to follow the same course.
